ANN ARBOR, MI The Marquette Rangers Tier II Junior hockey team played for their playoff lives Saturday night but were unable to get their offense on track for the second straight night falling 4-1. The win clinched the fourth and final NAHL playoff spot for the U.S. development team and means the Rangers season will come to a close earlier than they would have liked. USNTDP put up the first four goals of the night effectively ending any thoughts the Rangers had of celebrating a victory in Ann Arbor. They got Two powerplay goals in the first period, the first from Kevin McCarey and 5 minutes later from Kyle Palmieri. The first period ended with the Rangers down 2-0. Things didn't get any better in the second. Justin Florek made it 3-0 just 3 minutes into the period. Kevin McCarey would add his second goal of the night, his 8th in just 18 games on the season, to essentially put the game away. Mike Macari would get his 14th goal of the season, making good on a powerplay for the Rangers to cut the lead to 4-1. Derek Grogan and Trevor John assisted. But the Rangers could get no closer. U.S. netminder Joe Cannata got the win stopping 21 Rangers shots. Beau Christian shouldered the defeat stopping 37 shots. The Rangers converted one powerplay in four chances on the night. USNTDP scored on 2 of 4 powerplay opportunities. The Rangers head home for their final series of the season. They welcome the Traverse City North Stars to Lakeview arena on Friday, March 28 and Saturday March 29. Both games start at 7:30pm.
